Day 9: Ginger Beer

With more ginger than Gilligan can handle, real mashed ginger highlights this spicy specimin.

The Story:

Ginger is used like hops in this beer, balancing the sweetness from the malt and adding a full ginger kick along the way. The story of our Ginger Beer begins in Canada's oldest Chinatown, roughly 5 blocks from the brewery.  This is where in 2010 our flavour researcher Ben would stack a dolly with boxes of ginger as high as his head and delicately weave his way back to the brewery to spend all afternoon hand mashing ginger for his latest ginger beer experiments.  His hard work and dedication to detail paid off, and Ginger Beer has been a spicy staple in our beer fridge ever since...though we did eventually get Ben a machine to mash the ginger as the incessant hand mashing racket was driving us all nuts.  Try this beer with sushi.

Tasting Notes:

Pours a golden straw colour topped by a modest white head.  Lemon-citrus aromas with a hint of clove.  Has a strong ginger taste underpinned by a slight sweetness.  It finishes refreshingly dry and is sure to leave the drinker thirsty for more.

Availability:
This sushi sidekick is available in 650mL bottles year round.

  2. Sorry guys. I love the ginger ale (non-alcoholic) that you make, but this is just nasty.

  3. I feel like the reviews on this one need to balance out a little.

This is one of the few ginger beers I really enjoy. A crisp beer with a strong kick of ginger that invigorates the taste buds.

  4. I totally agree Aaron. I love this beer but am saving it for when I next eat sushi as that is a delicious combo.
